1. List and define all sections of magic in the first three levels. You will receive one mark for the name in the correct level and two for the definition (12 X 3 = 36 marks)
2. For each of the eight level two sections, identify the two level 1 sections that comprise it and state which one is the dominant section. (8 x 2 = 16 marks)
3. For each of the eight level three sections, identify the two level 2 sections that comprise it (and by extension, the three level 1 sections that comprise it) and state what the dominant component is. (8 x 2 = 16 marks)
4. What six sections in the first three levels are known as Dark Arts? State the section and the level (6 x 2 = 12 marks)
5. Why, generally, is a section classed as a Dark Art? (5)
6. For each of the Dark Arts, provide an argument as to why it is considered a Dark Art. (6 x 3 = 18 marks)
Part Two: Short Answer
1. What two level three sections are known as sisters to each other? (4)
2. What section of magic is easily the largest section of all magic? (2)
3. Certain Level 1 spells are particularly powerful because the classification by level has to do with the __________ of a spell, not the ________ (2)
4. What is the deadliest section of magic aside from Death? (3)
Part Three: Applications of Knowledge
1. Give an example of a Holy spell (1)
2. What section of magic is apparition a part of? (2)
3. Give an example of a spell you might learn in Charms, Transfiguration, and Defence Against the Dark Arts (one for each) and classify each into the appropriate section. (6)
Bonus Question:
To be an Animagus is to be able to transform into an animal at will. This is exceedingly difficult Transfiguration magic and as a result, is extraordinarily difficult to classify. Of the sections we have studied, where would you class this ability and why? (10)
