"Well done, Isabella." He approved, "That was the first in a series of aptitude tests I will be conducting on you in the near future to make sure you are ready for the intensity of Animagus training. You passed that one with flying - pardon the pun - colours."
She nodded, "Thank you," she said softly, colors....red...and maybe some black and blue too...she thought and her hand moved to her bruised elbow. This caused her to wince slightly, but she quickly dropped her elbow, and tightened her jaw, determined to continue.
Isabella listened to him speak, soaking in all the new information, "Vitas Deltas," she said very softly, mulling the word aloud in her mouth, getting familiarized with it. After she felt she had accomplished that, she moved to the intricate wand movement. She watched Tobias and attempted to mimic the convoluted wand movement, "Like this..?" she asked, and attempted the same pattern he just preformed.
He then caused the bird to turn into a mouse, and she watched, a little awestruck. She eyed the mouse determinedly, "Did you want me to attempt to turn it into a bird again sir?"

Tobias grinned for a moment, "If I was particularly nasty, I'd say you have to catch it first." He flicked his wand and the mouse shot into his hand. He held it out to her. "Yes, I want you to give this little fellow wings again. Your wand movement is not perfect, but close." He demonstrated again, "Make the flick mid-way through a little sharper and you'll have it."

Isabella laughed nervously when he mentioned her catching the mouse again, and then let out a sigh of relief, realizing he was joking. "Yes, I want you to give this little fellow wings again. Your wand movement is not perfect, but close." He demonstrated again, "Make the flick mid-way through a little sharper and you'll have it.
She nodded, and did the wand movement once more, before she took the mouse from him. Placing it down on his desk, she aimed her wand and took in a deep breath, "Vitas Deltas," she commanded, and moved the wand in the intricate pattern just taught. Immediately she felt the warm, familiar flow of magic from her arm, and watched as the mouse was hit with the spell. The mouse's snout grew a bit, and looked more beak-like, and a few baby feathers seemed to sprout from it, but alas, it was still a mouse.
With a sigh Isabella examined the mouse, "Now your just a silly looking mouse," she said holding it up near her face. She then turned to the Professor, "Did I say it incorrectly? Or miss a movement," she said, looking down at her wand.

Tobias frowned slightly, "Neither, Isabella. You did not focus enough. You must have seen part mouse in your mind, because your incantation and wand movement was perfect. There is no mouse, only a bird. Think of it that way and try once more."
That was not bad at all for a first attempt. She is certainly a quick study.

Must have seen part mouse....no mouse...only bird...she repeated to herself silently. "Alright Professor," she said with a nod. Isabella inhaled deeply, and raised her wand at the mouse-like thing now, "Vitas Deltas," she repeated once more, determination clear in her voice. Isabella's whole face was contorted into that of concentration, think bird, think bird, bird.... At the last moment she faltered though, and almost immediately she knew this spell wouldn't work, a frown was already upon her face.
She felt the magic course threw her body again, and watched as the spell hit the mouse-like thing. Nothing happened this time though, she sighed, eyeing the mouse-like thing. "One more time shall we," she said aloud to herself, "Vitas Deltas," she repeated, this time her eyes pierced the small mouse, and it was hit with the spell once again, only this time it transformed into a complete bird.
Isabella began to smile, "I did it," she said softly, picking up the bird and examining it. Almost as quickly as the smile came, it disappeared, "Oh no...it still has whiskers..." she said a bit sadly. "Almost."

"Don't sound so disappointed." Tobias chuckled, "It took me six tries to get that one right, and I was a bit older than you when I first tried it." He tapped the bird/mouse with his wand and the whiskers vanished. The bird promptly fluttered off out the window.
"That was an excellent start, but I think that will do for today. We will do much more next term as we work our way towards human transfiguration." Tobias smiled, "Oh, and feel free to practice that spell on your own. Any questions?"
