Isabella rapped at Professor Isthil's office. She was starting her Animagus training, and was extremely excited. Finally....after all that time...I'm finally going to start... a nervous smile appeared on her face.
"Hello Professor Isthil..." she called out bravely, "You said to stop by during winter break to begin my lessons?" her voice echoed a little.

"Come in, come in," Tobias signaled her, opening the door with the wave of his wand, "Sit down and we'll talk about why you are here today."
I don't know if she will be capable of this, but we will try, nonetheless, I suppose.

Isabella nodded, and smiled pleasantly at the Professor. She quickly took a seat, and then looked at him brightly. "Yes...I'd love to know more on the topic Professor...I mean I did do some research myself...but...it never goes into details on certain aspects of it," she said frowning a little. She then bit her tongue, shhh let him speak first...don't go off rambling...she scolded herself silently, keeping herself quiet, waiting for his response.
Her mind was always full of thoughts, never was her brain idle. Ravenclaw, was indeed the perfect house for her, and this was how she stumbled onto the topic of becoming an Animagus in the first place. Through some pleasure reading, and ever since then she was intrigued by it.

"You are a second year, Cayuela. Let us not forget that. Do not expect to complete your training this year, next year, or the year after. With any luck, we will have you an animagus before you leave, but I will guarantee nothing."
He smiled, "Now, enough with being pessimistic. You said you had done research. What did you learn?"

Isabella frowned, "Please call me Isabella Professor, and I know that becoming an Animagus will not happen anytime soon. That's something I've learned, and understand very well," she said nodding, "I also learned that it's difficult, and that you transform into an animal that best suits your personality," she added. "Oh also..that you have to register if your an Animagus," she finished.
After some thought she worked up enough courage to ask him what had been on her mind, "But what I couldn't find out...was how it felt to transform, and if you happened to transform...incompletely...what would happen," she said biting her lip a little worried. "Does...does it hurt to transform?" she asked hesitantly, as an after thought.

Tobias leaned back in his chair, "Why do I suspect that even if I said the pain was excruciating each and every single time that it would not change your mind? There is no pain in the transformation whatsoever. You do lose some of your humanity, however. Your memories and mind remain human, but your emotions and your senses become simpler, and that of whatever animal you have chosen to become."
"As far as what happens should your transformation be incomplete, I suspect it would be just that; you would be part-human, part-something else. One would assume you would have to attempt to revert back to human to try again, but I could not say for sure."

A smiled spread across her face at his words, he's right about that, nothing will defer me from becoming an Animagus. Once my minds set, there's no changing it. She then perked up her ears, and listened to the rest of his speech.
When he finished she nodded, taking all he said into thought. "I also read that if you have a scar, or spectacles, that when you transform you get those markings as well," she added, "I couldn't find who the first person to become an Animagus was though..." she said softly, and then looked up at him hopefully.

"I must confess, Isabella," Tobias said with a smile, "the history behind Animagi has never much interested me. When I decided I wanted to be able to fly, I simply found out how it was done."
She's right about the scars. I can feel them under my feathers when I'm a falcon.
"If you wanted the theory, you should have asked your History or Transfiguration Professor. I am afraid I am only of use to you if you want the practical." He chuckled, "but I suspect that is your ultimate interest."

Isabella sighed softly,"She thought you would know more overall on the topic," she said shrugging, "I guess I could keep researching it, I'm bound to find something sometime..."she said a bit sadly.
Hmmm I could go ask other teachers that are Animagi...then again they probably wouldn't know either, if Professor Isthil doesn't, then the others probably wont....she let her mind wander for a moment, and then caught herself.
"Yes, the practical," she said nodding. "Um, sir what would be the first step in all of this?" she asked curiously, I hope I don't come off too eager....

Tobias chuckled, "Oh, I think the obvious question is to find out exactly what it is you want to become. If you don't know that, progression beyond this first conversation is pointless. You don't, of course, need to be completely sure yet, but we need some idea."

She nodded, and bit down on her lip, "Well...I was thinking maybe a rabbit sir, or bluebird," she said frowning now, "Do you have an opinion on which you think is better?" she asked, her curiosity getting the better of her. "Or rather...which might be more suitable perhaps..." she let her voice trail off.

"I am afraid I don't know you well enough to answer that, Isabella." Tobias replied, "but I am sure it will become evident in time what the obvious choice is. For the moment, I suppose, we will focus on attempting to master the art of human transfiguration, beginning with some smaller animals."

Isabella nodded and took a deep breath, "Smaller animals...okay...like a mouse?" she asked, crinkling her face in thought. "Do you picture the animal in your thoughts first? Oh...wait do I need a wand for this as well?" she asked a little confused now. "I never really thought about that aspect..." she added, placing one hand on her hip and the other at her mouth.

"Not what I meant," Tobias corrected himself, "I meant that we will begin with transfiguring smaller, live creatures, and work our way up to humans. Wands are required to transform others, but once you are an Animagus, then you will have no need for one. You will be able to transform by sheer force of will. Visualization is key, and perhaps the most important part of becoming an animal. You must see yourself becoming and then existing as that animal."

"Oh," she said softly, and then nodded, understanding him now. "Visualization, I can do that," she said, building a little confidence in herself, "Sort of like when we transfigured mice from books, only I'm assuming this time it will go from animal to animal?" she asked inquisitively.

"Exactly," Tobias agreed. He took out his wand and flicked it, shooting a flock of small birds into the room. "Small birds are a good way to start. We will start with something of similar size, like a mouse, and then move to larger and more difficult animals. First thing however," He smiled slowly, "Go ahead and try to catch one."

Isabella had been listening intently, eyeing the bids when she froze, a frown glued to her face. "Go ahead and try to catch one," he said.
"Catch one..." she repeated softly, looking at the birds wearily. She inhaled a deep breath, and then thought about how to go about catching one. "Petrificus Totalus!" she said aiming her wand at one of the weaker, and smaller looking birds. Almost immediately the whole flock swooped in and swarmed her, she held up her arms to protect her face, feeling their beaks slash at her skin. After a few moments of enduring this, they retreated and she looked up, a bit shaken.
"What the heck?" she said as she raised a hand to her cheek, her fingers discovering a small cut trickling blood. She frowned, "Magic...causes them to attack. You've bewitched them," she said softly. A scowl appeared on her face, this time she stood a few feet away from the birds, "Wingardium Leviosa," she said, lifting a book, preparing to use it as a weapon against them, when they started to flock towards her again. She looked around for a place of refuge, and found nothing. Tobais' room was completely barren, and looked almost uninhabited.
Even when the magic isn't used directly on them...they seem to find the source....this isn't going to work....
She once again held her hands up over her face, and took swings at the birds, getting an idea, she stopped covering her face and went on the offensive. Her small hands zoomed in on the nearest bird attacking her, and she attempted to grab it, almost succeeding, but at the last minute it slipped away. She soon realized another bird had pecked at her bare arm, leaving another small cut, and a bit of blood to dribble down her arm. She stood there a little crestfallen, ignoring her minor wounds.
Think...how else could I capture one....don't give up...she stood in contemplation, her mind racing with ideas.

Tobias leaned back in his chair, pleased. This was a basic exercise in focus and resolve. If she was defeated here, then she would never have managed to become an Animagus in the future. Patience, focus, determination, three very important skills. Did she possess them? Well, he would have to wait and see.

Isabella stood wearily in front of the flock, her hands on her small hips, she observed the birds carefully, looking for some sort of weakness. Almost instantaneously she noticed one of the birds had a slightly bent wing, more than likely the one she had attempted to grab earlier. A small vindictive smile appeared on her face, she slowly made her way towards the birds, making no sudden movements, she didn't want so have them scatter off.
When she got within a foot of them, she prepared herself. With one swift movement, she took a dive for the debilitated bird, managing to get one hand around it again, she swung her other arm around it, keeping a firm grip on it. The other birds took off flying around the room for a moment, and then seemed to calm down. Isabella landed with a thud to the ground, her elbow hitting the hard floor rather forcefully. She winced in pain, but kept her grasp on the bird none-the-less.
After a few moments she managed to get up, wincing again as she felt a bit of pain shoot threw her arm. She stood shakily in front of the Professor, a small triumphant smile on her face. "Got one," she said softly.

Tobias waved his wand, opening a window and letting the rest of the birds free, removing the enchantment first. Gently, he took the bird from Isabella, letting it perch on his hand. The bird was quite friendly now that Tobias had taken the spell off. "Well done, Isabella." He approved, "That was the first in a series of aptitude tests I will be conducting on you in the near future to make sure you are ready for the intensity of Animagus training. You passed that one with flying - pardon the pun - colours."
"The next step is understanding general Transfiguration. Up until now, and indeed, for years yet, you will be taught specific spells in Transfiguration to change one thing into something else. We will be working with a general spell. It allows any basic Transfiguration as long as you have a firm visual and great focus. You lack the raw power for the more advanced ones, but I think you can handle the basic one required to change this bird, into say, a mouse. The incantation is Vitas Deltas. The wand movement is as you see here." Tobias took out his wand, waved it in an intricate pattern, spoke the incantation and the bird hopped off his hand, a mouse now.
